Exploring Belief Expansion

Exploring Belief Expansion

Goal of the Technique:

“Faith can move mountains.” This saying comes from the Bible (Matthew 21:18–22), and if you look around with open eyes, you’ll quickly realize that much of the world’s current conflict centers around belief. What you believe—or what others try to define as your “correct” belief—shapes your reality.

The Format

This technique enables the transformation of limiting beliefs.

Standard Steps:

  1. Problem + Timeline
  2. Dissociated Exploration
  3. Associated Exploration
  4. Resources
  5. Test

Detailed Description:

1. Problem + Timeline

Identify and define the limiting belief.

“You have this limiting belief and would like to explore where it came from.”

“Could you please create a line in the room that symbolizes your timeline?”

“Where is the past, present, and future on this line?”

2. Dissociated Exploration

From a meta position, A selects a point on the timeline before the belief was formed and answers questions about its scope.

  • “Which areas of life does the belief apply to?”
  • “Does it expand into other areas or shrink in scope?”
  • “Which logical levels does it relate to?”
  • “Can this connection change?”
  • “Is this belief ‘immortal’ or can it be changed?”

3. Associated Exploration

A stands at the origin point of the belief on the timeline, answers B's questions, and slowly moves toward the present.

  • “What would you have to do/think/believe to maintain this belief?”
  • “What would you absolutely have to avoid doing to keep the belief intact?”

4. Resources (from Meta Position)

Send resources from the meta position onto the timeline.

  • “Which resources could you activate here to shift the belief?”
  • “Can you now send these resources from the meta position?”

5. Test

Test the effectiveness of the process.

“How do you feel now when you think about the belief?”

Summary

Format suitable for: Changing limiting beliefs—by exploring their validity across different life situations, one gains insight that the belief can be changed.

Format contrasted with:

  • Belief in Doubt: Primarily visual submodality work to shift beliefs.
  • Diamond Technique: Uses reflection on criteria and their pros/cons to develop a new solution or belief.
  • Belief Circle: Guides a limiting belief through various stages (firm belief → open to doubt → museum → new belief → open to faith → sacred space) to let go and replace it.

Common Obstacles:

A cannot find any resources that could shift the belief.

    → Support:
  • “Imagine a miracle has happened and the belief has changed. What forces do you think played a role?”
  • “Can you activate these forces yourself—or who could do it on your behalf and send that energy into your timeline?”

Format Notes:

By questioning the belief’s validity across logical levels and life areas on the timeline, its foundation is challenged.

Through the paradoxical instructions in Step 3 and the addition of resources in Step 4, transformation is facilitated.
