Logical Level Alignment
Logical Level Alignment
The Format:
In Logical Level Alignment, alignment with a goal is experienced across all logical levels. By experiencing the desired state within an “as-if” frame, strong resources are built at each level. During the process, the logical levels are experienced in sequence, fully associated with the goal:
Logical Levels:
- Context
- Behavior
- Capabilities
- Beliefs
- Identity
- Belonging
- Identity
- Beliefs
- Capabilities
- Behavior
- Context
Standard Steps:
- Define the topic and set 7 floor anchors
- Experience and describe the logical levels in the desired state
- Bring resources back through all logical levels
- Integrate at the Meta level
- Future Pace
Detailed Description:
1. Define the Topic and Set 7 Floor Anchors
Meta: Define the goal. Set 7 floor anchors (Meta and Logical Levels 1–6).
- Start with a goal—something the client wants to have, do, or be capable of.
- “What is your goal you'd like to explore? Imagine a specific situation where you’ve already achieved this goal.”
- “Choose a line in the room where you can comfortably take six steps.”
Level: Context (Environment)
On the first position, the coachee describes the time and environment of the situation.
“Step onto the first space—the level of time and environment. As you stand here, think about the situation and where you will be. Describe the surroundings—what does it look like around you? Who is present? Where are you? Are you alone or with others? What is the date?”
Level: Behavior
On the second position, the coachee describes their concrete behavior in the situation.
“Step onto the second space—the level of behavior. What exactly are you doing at that time and place? Your behavior is what others could observe—standing, sitting, speaking, listening, etc. What are you doing specifically?”
Level: Capabilities
On the third position, the coachee describes the capabilities they have in that situation.
“Step onto the third space—the level of capabilities. What inner resources and skills are you using to enable this behavior?”
Level: Beliefs and Values
On the fourth position, the coachee explains what’s important to them in the situation.
“Now take another step forward to the level of beliefs and values. What’s important to you? What do you believe as you use these capabilities to carry out this behavior? Why are you doing what you’re doing?”
Level: Identity
On the fifth position, the coachee makes a statement about their identity.
“Please take another step forward—to the level of identity. What does the person think about themselves—this person with these values, capabilities, and behaviors? I am…! Is there a metaphor or symbol for that?”
Level: Belonging and Spirituality
On the sixth position, the coachee finds a metaphor for being part of something greater.
“Now step forward again to the level of belonging and spirituality. If there were something greater that you are a part of, what would that be? Or what greater idea or purpose are you connected to?”
2. Experience and Describe the Logical Levels in the Desired State
Experience and describe levels 1–6 in the desired state:
- Context
- Behavior
- Capabilities
- Beliefs
- Identity
- Belonging
3. Bring Resources Back Through All Logical Levels
Now move back from level 6 to 1, allowing the experience of each higher level to enrich the level below.
“Now turn around and bring that energy and power with you as you step back onto the level of identity.”
“Standing again in the identity level, with this new energy, does anything shift? Notice how your experience at the spiritual level enhances this level.”
“Now bring all that (name it) with you as you step forward onto the level of beliefs and values. What changes here? Are there new values emerging?”
“Now take all this energy and the new values (name them), step forward, and bring them into the level of capabilities. What changes on this level? Are there new skills or strengths?”
“Step forward again, carrying everything into the behavior level. What’s different here?”
“Take one more step into the context level, and feel how your physical environment shifts and expands.”
“Now fully feel all of this and imagine a few key future situations or places where you’ll bring this energy, knowledge, and way of being.”
4. Integration at the Meta Level
Now step into Meta position: Integration.
5. Future Pace
Future Pace means mentally experiencing future situations with the newly gained resources.
The goal of future pacing is to ensure that desired behaviors and responses will naturally and automatically occur in relevant future environments.
