Moment of Excellence

Moment of Excellence

“Moment of Excellence” describes a format to induce a positive emotional state for various life situations. These positive states are vital resources, activated by recalling and anchoring memories of times you felt really good. They can be reactivated especially in challenging scenarios. If an anchor aims to boost self-worth, that is sometimes called a Moment of Importance.

Coaching Process

Step 1

Find Resources

The coachee recalls three instances in life when they experienced a very positive state. They choose a spot on their body for the anchor to be placed later.

Step 2

Select the Best Resource

Out of these three, the coachee picks the situation that gave them the best, most intense feeling. Next step is anchoring it.

Step 3

Activate and Anchor the Resource

The coachee immerses themselves in that memory, re-experiencing it through all senses to strengthen the feeling. The coach’s task is calibrating—observing bodily signals to note the peak intensity—and then setting the anchor. Physical changes in posture or movement indicate internal experience and can also unconsciously serve as anchors. The coach may ask the coachee to intensify the feeling, applying stronger pressure as the anchor if needed.
If the anchor wasn’t timed properly, re-anchor the state. If the coach can’t calibrate well, the coachee may place the anchor themselves. If the feeling isn’t strong enough, pick a different memory.

Step 4

Set a Separator

A separator breaks the state. The coach might ask a simple question that brings the coachee back to “here and now.”

Step 5

Additional Anchors

The coach mentions the physical changes observed. The coachee repeats those changes and picks a name for the emotional state, calling it something like a “moment of excellence.”

Step 6

Future Pacing + Check

Finally, test your result. The coachee imagines a future situation where they want that resource and associates into it. The coach fires the anchor and watches the coachee’s reaction.
