Team Kaleidoscope

The Format
This format aims to strengthen a team and enhance unity. In it, everyone goes through the logical levels in a star-like arrangement together.

Standard Steps:

  • Identify Topic + Floor Anchors
  • Environment Level
  • Behavior Level
  • Capabilities Level
  • Values Level
  • Identity Level
  • Spirituality Level
  • Bring Resources Back
  • Test

Detailed Description:

1. Find Topic and Lay Floor Anchors
Situation:
Two or more people want to share and complement each other’s resources.
Find one or more partners with whom you’d like to exchange resources.
Then lay six floor anchors in parallel or star-shaped to represent the logical levels. If there are two of you, stand opposite each other.

2. Environment Level
Starting with the environment level, each person describes their favorite place.
Step forward and describe that favorite place—location, people, landscape. Note the keywords on the floor anchors.

3. Behavior Level
On the second level, behavior, each person describes what they like to do.
Step forward again and describe your favorite activities. Write the keywords on the floor anchors.

4. Capabilities Level
On the third level, capabilities, each person describes what they do well.
Step forward and describe your most important skills. Note these keywords on the floor anchors.

5. Values Level
On the fourth level, values, each person describes what is important to them.
Step forward and name your most important values. Note them on the floor anchors.

6. Identity Level
On the fifth level, identity, each person describes what defines them.
At this level, each finds a metaphor for their own personality.
Step forward and offer a metaphor for yourself, e.g. “I am…” or “I am like…”.
Write the key points on the floor anchors.

7. Spirituality Level
On the sixth level, spirituality, each person describes their sense of meaning.
Here each finds a metaphor for being connected to something greater as a whole.
Step forward again and describe your sense of belonging to a higher purpose—what you feel, how you sense it.

8. Bring Resources Back
Everyone walks back along the other person’s path.
Now, with that energy, walk back through the other’s path level by level.
What changes? How do your partner’s resources enrich your own level?

9. Test
Check the outcome of the exercise.
“How do you feel about yourself, and about each other, now?”

Summary
Format suitable for:
Generally strengthening a team or uniting a team by enriching each other’s resources while going star-like through the logical levels.
Format in contrast to:

  • Team Building Process: More suitable for developing a common strategy or managing a shared task.
  • Leonardo da Vinci Model: More suitable for addressing conflicts within a team.

Format Notes:
In this work, each team member goes through all the logical levels.
It becomes most intensive when, at each level, you physically step into the positions representing each other person and ask: “What can I personally take away from this?”
You might also explore “What would I like to leave behind?”
