Time-Line-Reframing Variant 1

Process
As described here, Time-Line-Reframing was developed by Dilts & Epstein. It combines timeline work with classic reframing.

Step 1
Identify a Problematic Experience:
Find one or more negative or problematic experiences in your life. Move to a dissociated position where you see your entire life path and apply the following steps to each negative experience.

Step 2
Reframing 1: What Would Have Been Worse?
Looking at this negative experience, ask yourself what could have been even worse than what you actually experienced. This may shift how you evaluate the event.

Step 3
Reframing 2: Find Positive Results!
Find positive results that immediately or, perhaps, much later arose from this initially negative experience. Maybe certain very important things in your life would not have happened had you not first undergone this negative experience. Sometimes it helps to take a positive experience and trace it back to see how an uncomfortable situation actually caused it (context reframing).

Step 4
Reframing 3: Identify the Positive Intention!
Uncover the positive intention behind the negative event. Even if the event itself was negative, the intention behind the seemingly negative behavior or unpleasant situation may still be very positive. For instance, getting sick can be a positive intention in order to stop an unhealthy lifestyle or receive care from others (meaning reframing).

Step 5
Reframing 4: Find the Positive Meaning!
Discover the positive meaning in the negative experience. What is negative on one level can have a completely different, positive meaning on another level. Perhaps having a problem in one area means that you solved another problem on a different level. Going through something problematic might also show that you held on—without compromise, even with yourself—to certain essential values (Neuro-Logical Levels).

Step 6
Recover Your Sense of Humor!
Having applied these reframes, re-associate into each negative experience and relive it with your new insights. Notice how the experience feels different now.
