The Transderivational Search Format

This is a format used for uncovering imprint experiences from the past. The term transderivational search typically refers to an unconscious search process in which the surface structure of a sentence is used to derive possible deep structures from one’s own experiences. The transderivational search is a kind of reverse process compared to transformation grammar, which underpins the Milton Model.

Besides this definition (A) as a search process for a specific deep structure, the term is also used for (B) a kinesthetic recall strategy.

Standard Steps:

1. Step 1:
   Perceive and anchor the feeling for which the imprint is being sought.
2. Step 2:
   Follow the anchored feeling to the first occurrence.
   Follow the anchored feeling back to its first occurrence in the past. Two methods for following the feeling to its original imprint:
   • Slowly walk backward along a physical timeline on the floor.
   • In your mind, float backward in time, letting the feeling guide you until internal events appear.
   Continue until you reach the first imprint experience. You can recognize the first occurrence by the absence of that feeling before the event.
