Introduction of the Three Types:
Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Type

This section introduces the three main types: the visual, the auditory, and the kinesthetic type. Preferences and specific characteristics are described.

The Visual Type

NLP VAK

The visual type primarily perceives their environment visually. They think largely in images, which they can recall at lightning speed in their mind. Since they mainly use language to describe their inner images, they also tend to speak very quickly. Their breathing is typically shallow and rapid, and their eyes often move upward to the right or left as they constantly access their inner images. Their shoulder and abdominal muscles are usually tense.

The Auditory Type

NLP VAK

The auditory type is a good listener – both to others and to their own inner voices. They often talk to themselves and are sensitive to all external sounds and voices. Their breathing is neither particularly shallow nor particularly deep. Their eyes are directed straight ahead. They speak calmly and slowly, paying close attention to word choice and sentence structure. When thinking, they turn their focus inward and take their time, as they think not in images but in words or sentences. The auditory type is a fairly demanding conversation partner with an extensive vocabulary. They enjoy brilliant phrasing as much as long discussions about political or philosophical topics.

The Kinesthetic Type

NLP VAK

The kinesthetic type primarily lives in their feelings. They breathe deeply into the abdomen, and their eyes are often directed downward. They speak slowly and with a deep voice. Overall, they may appear rather passive, as their emotions allow for fewer spontaneous reactions. Their muscles are relaxed. When meeting someone, the kinesthetic type is unlikely to greet with a friendly look or a few warm words, but more likely with a heartfelt hug or a firm handshake.
