Questions for Stephan Landsiedel

In seminars, trainings, and via social media, I receive numerous questions. I selected some of these questions and would like to share my thoughts with you. I hope they inspire you.

What is the difference between calibration and pacing?

Calibration is the ability to recognize externally observable characteristics and assign them to a state. For example, after attuning well to my counterpart, I can detect from a subtle change in their facial expression whether a suggestion is well received or if more arguments are needed.

Pacing means adapting to the other person in terms of visual and auditory expression. The other person is met where they are. For example, I pace the person's speaking tempo or body posture.

My tip for distinction: Calibration is not pacing. However, the fine perception required for calibration is an important prerequisite for pacing. Calibration first and foremost means gathering information from voice, face, or other bodily reactions. Whether I then mirror (pace) them is another matter.

What is the difference between critical and driver submodalities?

Critical submodalities are those that directly trigger an emotional reaction to an experience. When you change them, your feelings about the experience also change.

Driver submodalities act like a "key" or "switch" that can trigger a larger change in the overall representation of an experience and influence other submodalities.

Both concepts are important in NLP for working with inner experiences and creating change in thinking and feeling.

Can I change my life with NLP?

Yes, NLP can definitely help you change your life – if you apply it consciously and regularly.

NLP is not a "magic cure" that will completely transform your life overnight, but it offers tools and techniques that allow you to better understand and deliberately change your thought patterns, behaviors, and emotional reactions.

It’s about more than quick tricks; NLP can help you create deeper and long-term changes – if you are willing to engage in the process. Here are some of the main areas where NLP can help:

  • Changing limiting beliefs
  • Improving communication and relationships
  • Managing stress and negative emotions
  • Building self-confidence
  • Changing behavior patterns and habits

With NLP, you can gain more control over your life and steer it in the direction you want.

What is the difference between auditory digital and auditory tonal?

The difference between auditory digital and auditory tonal lies in the way information is processed when using the auditory channel. Both terms refer to different aspects of perceiving and processing speech and sounds.

Auditory tonal refers to the perception and processing of sounds, tones, volume, modulation, and speech melody. The focus here is on sound quality and tonality – the "music of language." Through this perception, we often recognize the emotions and mood of our conversation partner.

Auditory digital refers to the processing of language and communication on a more abstract, analytical level. The focus here is not on the sound, but on the content and meaning of words and the linguistic structure. This aspect of communication is generally more cognitive and analytical. Auditory digital is especially important when analyzing and structuring information, such as in formal conversations, discussions, or understanding complex concepts.

Both aspects complement each other.
