Tools for Maintaining Self-Esteem
Virginia Satir frequently used this tool in her process work or incorporated it into her morning meditation.
Perhaps you can find some inspiration for yourself here.
- The Invisible Medallion
Imagine that you are wearing a medallion around your neck. Both sides are beautifully inscribed. On one side, it says: "Yes. Thank you for noticing me; what you are asking of me is exactly right at the moment, and this is my response.
"On the other side, it says: "No. Thank you for noticing me; what you are asking of me does not fit at all right now, and this is my response."
These two alternatives can help you decline a request or demand from another when it is (at the moment) inappropriate for you. If you can stand by your true yes's and no's and act accordingly, you are connected with both the energy of intuition and being "grounded". - The Courage Gauge
Everyone should imagine their own courage gauge and design it as they wish. This courage gauge helps us use the medallion and move in the direction of our dreams. It can give us strength whenever we tend to hold on to the old out of fear and are hesitant to step into the new. - The Golden Key
According to Virginia Satir, the golden key opens the door to the richness of the inner self that can be discovered when we simply allow ourselves to. - The Detective Hat
This hat gives you the opportunity, together with your courage gauge, to start decoding the mysteries of life. The hat helps you gain new information and explore before you make a judgment. - The Wisdom Box
This box is our source of intuition and contains the - sometimes buried - knowledge about our inner resources. It contains the ability or sense to know what fits and is good for us, and perhaps it also holds what helps us understand our dreams.
