Tips for Effective Trance Inductions

This is how you can professionally initiate an induction:

  • What matters is not what you say, but how you say it. The voice has a special significance in trance work.
  • Referring back to previous trance states: Have the person describe exactly how they entered a trance state before.
  • Spontaneous trance states: Describe intense trance states from everyday life, e.g., driving a car, boring lessons, etc. - Repetitions, monotony.
  • By systematically adjusting the predicates and then transferring them linguistically into another sensory system (leading), it becomes possible for the client to perceive this experience in a different (sensory) way.
  • Overload: Humans have the ability to consciously perceive up to seven (+-2) sources of information simultaneously. When it exceeds this, the person becomes overloaded. Information can then be directly sent to the unconscious. To ensure the overload works, make sure all perception channels are involved.
  • The Power of Personal Charisma: Tell someone confidently that they should go into trance.
  • Nested Realities (The story within the story): Overwhelm the capacities. Pack something into a story on the side, which might otherwise be resisted by the conscious mind.
  • Citing: When you quote, you give your behavior a framework that says something like: "I'm not saying this. I'm just reporting on an experience I had." Still, you naturally incorporate every induction you want in it, with all your power.
  • Pattern Interruption: This may be the fastest way to throw the client out of "their map". Here, a fixed behavior pattern of the client is blocked before the program can run its course. There are several ways to do this:
  • Pseudo-Orientation in Time: In this method, you induce the client into a trance, move them into the future, and now assume that the problem they came in with has already been solved. You then ask them to recap exactly how they solved the problem, what you, the therapist, did with them, and what helped the most.

Notes for Ending a Trance

Tips and guidelines for ending a trance. What to consider and how to best bring the other person back.

Just as it takes a certain amount of time to induce the client into a trance, it is also necessary to give them enough time to exit the trance state. This can be done, for example, by using a formulation that allows the client to end the trance at their own pace, or by announcing a countdown from 10 to 1, where the number 1 signals the return to the here-and-now state.

Please lift all suggestions given during the trance, such as feelings of lightness, heaviness, amnesia, etc.

Use suggestions at the end such as: "When you open your eyes, you can feel very refreshed, rested, and awake."

You can also give post-hypnotic suggestions to help the client enter the trance more easily and deeply the next time.

Ensure that the client has truly left the trance state by checking their reactions and the functioning of their senses.

The trance observer helps, if necessary, to assist the client in standing up (e.g., leaving the location).
